Abstract
Cyperus giganteus Vahl and C. rotundus L., species used in the folkway pharmacy, were examined.
These species grow in the Pampean steppe (E Argentina, Uruguay and S Río Grande do Sul, Brazil). For each species, the common name, morphological and anatomical characteristics of the organs with medicinal properties, ethnopharmacology, illustrations, and maps of distribution in the Pampean steppe are presented.
On the basis of morphological and anatomical characters, a key to species of Cyperus was elaborated enabling the distinguishing of the species in fragmented or entire samples.
