Abstract
In a general program of evaluation of aromatic resources in NW Argentina the adaptation of exotic species, and systematic cultivation of Satureja hortensis L., Ocimum basilicum L., and Coriandrum sativum L. were studied.
The essential oil (EO) of S. hortensis L. was observed to have
-terpinene (37.08–40.15%), carvacrol (42.81–33.90 %), and p-cymene (9.57–9.23%), among other constituents.
The EO of O. basilicum. L., harvested at fruiting, was dominated by linalool (71.51%), and eugenol (10.16%). The EO of C. sativum L. produced a yield of 0.40% by hydrodistillation of the ripe fruit and contained linalool (68.14%) as the main component.
During a preliminary assay the yields of plant material of S. hortensis, C. basilicum and C. sativum were 0.83 and 0.21 kg/m2, and 363 fruits/plant, respectively; the EO yields were 0.3 and 0.17 (the best), and 0.4%, respectively.
