Abstract
A systematic study of Origanum sp. was started reproducing plant material from local producers in Jujuy (NW Argentina). The plants grew vigorously and healthy and the essential oil (EO) yields were promising (0.28–1.55%, fresh basis).
Composition of the EO showed that all the cultivars were of O. majorana and according to the major components could be classified as: (I):terpin-4-ol, p-cymene; (II): terpin-4-ol,
-terpinene; (III): p-cymene, terpin-4-ol, carvacrol; (IV): terpin-4-ol,
-terpinene, trans sabinene hydrate relative to OH-IPP).
