Abstract
The volatile composition of four species of the genus Peperomia collected near to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has been studied.
These essential oils were obtained by hydrodistillation in a modified Clevenger-type apparatus.
The analysis was performed by GC/MS and the identification of the substances was made by comparison of their mass spectra with literature records and retention indices.
According to this methodology it has been possible to identify in the studied essential oils monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes and arylpropanoids.
