Abstract
Red raspberry and thornfree blackberry are considered to be very important fruit crops in Yugoslavia.
Yugoslavia is one of the leading producers and exporters of raspberry and blackberry worldwide.
Raspberry production oscillated from 38,000 t up to 64,000 t over the last ten years.
Blackberry production ranged from 15,000 t up to 20,000 t, annually.
The area under raspberry and blackberry accounts for 12,600 ha.
Cvs. ‘Willamette’ and ‘Meeker’, suitable for freezing, dominate within raspberry cultivars.
For the last three years, blackberry cv. ‘Cacanska Bestrna’ has been in increasing demand.
It has significantly better properties compared to other thornfree blackberry cultivars grown so far.
The programme on organic raspberry and blackberry production has been under way for three years.
Over the last ten years, raspberry export ranged from 42,000 t to 50,000 t, blackberry export from 8,000 t to 13,000 t.
A largest proportion of these raspberry and blackberry fruits is frozen and exported to the EU market.
