Abstract
This paper deals with some observations on the culture of early tomatoes in Tunisia.
In order to have a sufficient yield during the quiet period (April) an early sowing and an early plantation are necessary.
In order to have a sufficient yield during the quiet period (April) an early sowing and an early plantation are necessary.
Hormonal treatments are also necessary to promote fructification in the cold period of January-February.
Two types of growth regulators were tested, GA3 and Stimocarp (
-naphtyloxyaceticacid) on different tomato varieties.
The treatment of the inflorescences with Stimocarp at 48 ‰ gave the best results.
Culture under tunnel with plastic sheet slightly increased the earliness as well as the average weight of the fruits and the total yield in comparison with the traditional method under individual windbreaks.
Promising perspectives were noted for the early crops using varieties of the type “Naine Primabel” under tunnel with plastic sheet and windbreak.
