Abstract
Until 10 years ago most vegetables in glasshouse in Sweden (tomatoes and cucumber) were grown on a mixture of soil, peat and straw.
From that time cultivation on a layer of peat (10–15 cm) on concrete floor or on plastic was more and more common mostly because of plant pathological reasons.

The last years (after 1973) especially cucumber but also tomatoes, are often cultivated on mineral wool mats.
This year 1976, about half of the acreage of cucumber and 10% of the tomatoes are grown on this material.
