Abstract
Five introduced rose species were grown in the Central Botanical Garden in Baku in Absheron, a peninsula on the West coast of the Caspian Sea, characterised by dry summers and humid winters.
The soil in Absheron is grey-brown, and ranges between sand and heavy silt.
The vegetative cover consists mainly of ephemeral semi desert plants.
Growth and development of the five rose species was studied, and suitable cultivation techniques were developed.
The studied species appear to be well adapted to the soil and climate in Absheron and can be recommended for landscape and garden planting.
