Abstract
We have isolated EJLFY and EJAP1, homologues of LEAFY and APETALA1 genes, from loquat.
In order to analyse the functions of them, the plant expression vectors were constructed with two genes inserted into pBI121 plasmid vector separately and then transformed into wild type (for EJLFY) and ap1-1 mutant (for EJAP1) of Arabidopsis thaliana by Agrobacterium tumefaciens strain GV3101 using the floral dip method.
For ectopic expression of EJLFY in WT of Arabidopsis, most of the transgenic plants showed early-flowering phenotypes, which correlated with a significant decrease in rosette leaf production.
For ectopic expression of EJAP1 in ap1-1 mutant of Arabidopsis, we found that EJAP1 can partially complement the ap1-1 mutant of Arabidopsis mainly in that it can restore the petal formation of ap1-1 mutant.
These results primarily proved the important function of EJLFY and EJAP1 in the flowering process of loquat.
