Abstract
Among the most important floricultural crops used as cut flower, lily is very popular in Italy.
However, all bulbs are imported from The Netherlands and the cost of the bulbs are high.
The imported material has other important constraints, such as how it will perform under the Italian environmental conditions, especially under high temperature conditions.
Therefore a breeding program was initiated at CRA-VIV that included classical cross design (diallelic cross), physical agents to induce mutations of Asiatic hybrid lilies.
Several interesting clones are now available.
The selected clones vary in a number of characters such as: different flowering time, plant size, flower colour, different type of spots, pathogen resistance and pollenless flowers.
Some cut flower and pot types are available now for Italian growers.
