Abstract
The lily (Lilium L.), a vegetatively propagated perennial crop, is one of the most economically important bulbous plants.
It is grown worldwide as a cut flower, a garden plant and a pot plant.
The purpose of this trial was to evaluate the use of a biological product – Trihodermin B-J that contains cells of the microscopic fungi Trichoderma harzianum 8-21 and Trichoderma viride 1-5. Under open air conditions, the effect of Trihodermin B-J, was tested on three cultivars – Lilium longiflorum × Asiatic cultivar Sonora as well Asiatic hybrid lilies Meteorits and Vigante during the summer of 2009. In the field trial, either a dry powder form (10 kg ha-1) was applied as a soil treatment or a water suspension (200 L ha-1) was applied to plants four times during the growing period.
When compared to control plants, treated plants showed significantly higher resistance to Botrytis cinerea. The results proved that Trihodermin B-J in liquid form was the most effective for reducing disease incidence under field conditions.
Bulb size was also positively affected by the application.
