Abstract
Rhizobacteria are influenced by plant species, soil environment, cultivation methods, etc.
The ginger-specific disease rhizome rot is influenced by soil physico-chemical properties and the distribution of microorganisms.
Therefore, it is essential to investigate the ecological properties and density of various microorganisms inhabiting the root zone of ginger.
An ecological approach was used to study rhizo-bacteria by comparing diseased soils with rhizome rot and healthy soils without in the Seosan ginger-production region in Korea.
Physico-chemical properties of rhizo-bacteria were compared using conventional culture techniques and molecular methods.
Analysis of soil physical properties, revealed differences between healthy soils and diseased soils.
Bulk density and soil moisture were lower in healthy soils.
Healthy soils had low pH, ammonium nitrogen, and available phosphoric acid, and diseased soils showed opposite results.
The distribution of cellulolytic microorganisms was high in healthy soils.
The molecular analysis of soil bacteria showed that healthy soils had a high distribution ratio of Firmicutes and γ-Proteobacteria, and diseased soils had a greater distribution of α-Proteobacteria.
