Abstract
Seed primary dormancy in several Azorean endemic species lead to unsatis-factory germination percentages.
The aim of this study was to establish effective germination methods to overcome seed dormancy in Lotus azoricus, Vaccinium cylindraceum, and Picconia azorica. Before germination tests, seeds were stored at 4ºC or submitted to chemical or mechanical scarification and submitted to different temperature regimen.
Germination trials successfully released seed primary dormancy, leading to germination percentages of 98.5% (L. azoricus), 74% (V. cylindraceum) and 86% (P. azorica).
