Abstract
Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L. Rapid) seeds were treated with different concentrations of silk fibroin, i.e., 0 mgL-1, 20 mgL-1, 50 mgL-1, 100 mgL-1 and 200 mgL-1, for 4 hours, in order to improve the performance under high-temperature stress.
Germination testing was conducted under high-temperature stress (35°C/30°C, D/N). Silk fibroin was also applied to the seedlings at the 4-leaf stage before being subjected to heat stress.
Some biochemical tests, including the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD) and catalase (CAT), proline content and MDA content were determined for the young seedlings.
Results indicated that silk fibroin could effectively enhance germination of lettuce seeds.
Optimal effect resulted from a 50 mgL-1 silk fibroin solution.
