Abstract
Carob tree (Ceratonia siliqua L.) is a crop with economic interest for Algarve region of Portugal.
Elemental fingerprint techniques, based on elemental contents (Fe, Ca, Mg, K, P, Na, Cu, Cr, Mn, Zn and Pb) determined by atomic absorption spectrometry and multivariate statistical analysis, have been used to differentiate three carob cultivars from Algarve.
Statistically significant differences were found between cultivars Mulata, Galhosa and Aida elemental composition.
The ranges of elements concentrations in leaves were significantly different among cultivars.
The cluster analysis allowed differentiating Aida and Galhosa cultivars.
