Abstract
The aim of this research was to induce earliness in plum fruit cultivars such as Black Beauty, Black Star, and Papaz grown in containers in a plastic greenhouse under ecological conditions in Antalya.
The research was conducted between 2010-2013. The plants were placed in 30-L black plastic containers filled with peat: manure (1.5:1) mixture.
The plants were divided into four groups and two groups were treated with either 2.5% Dormex or 200 ppm GA3. A third group was not treated with chemicals but stored at 5°C for 30 days in cold storage to meet chilling requirements.
A fourth group was kept as a control.
After treatment, half of the plants in each treatment were transferred into a plastic greenhouse and the other half was kept outside.
Plants that were transferred to the plastic greenhouse began growing about 7-10 days earlier than plants grown outside.
Among the plum cultivars, the earliest bud break was observed in Black Beauty and Papaz treated with Dormex.
The highest fruit setting and yield per plant occurred in Black Beauty trees treated with 200 ppm GA3. In general, control treatments had positive effects on some of the pomological parameters such as fruit weight, fruit width, fruit length, fruit flesh/seed weight ratio. and acidity measured on Black Star. Fruit of Papaz trees kept in the cool house for chilling had the highest firmness.
The highest fruit soluble solids content was measured in Black Star trees treated with Dormex.
