Abstract
From 1980 to 2015, the University of Hohenheim carried out its own plum breeding programme.
As in the 1990s, the focus was directed more and more to sharka resistance; the aims was to breed sharka resistant cultivars with high fruit quality.
The three new hypersensitive cultivars Jofela, Jolina, and Joganta were the result of that breeding programme.
These conventionally bred cultivars allow fruit growers to cultivate plums in regions where sharka is widespread, without having the need to plant genetically modified cultivars.
