Abstract
The study entitled Effect of organic manure and rooting media on Kinnow plants growing in containers under rooftop farming was conducted at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu.
The experiment consisted of eight treatment combinations of farm yard manure (FYM) and vermicompost along with rooting media, i.e., cocopeat, vermiculite, perlite, with three replications.
The result showed that application of T8 treatment (vermicompost + cocopeat:vermiculite:perlite (5:2:1)) was found best, excellent in almost all the parameters viz., canopy spread NS (62.20 cm), canopy spread EW (60.45 cm), plant height (92.34 cm), trunk diameter (2.74 cm), leaf size (16.10 cm2), number of fruit (24.00), fruit length (7.52 cm), fruit width (7.52 cm), fruit weight (158.74 g), fruit yield plant‑1 (4.89 kg), fruit juice (52.08%), TSS (11.82 °Brix), titratable acidity (1.04%), ascorbic acid (32.89 mg), total sugar (8.56%), total chlorophyll content (9.92 mg), photosynthesis rate (6.12 µmol CO2 m‑2 s‑1), stomatal conductance (47.38 mmol m‑2 s‑1), transpiration rate (1.88 µmol H2O m‑2 s‑1) and leaf internal CO2 concentration (382.00 ppm) and followed by T7 treatment (vermicompost + cocopeat:vermiculite: perlite (4:2:1)). The minimum value was found in T1 treatment (FYM + cocopeat: vermiculite:perlite (2:1:1)). The highest number of flowers (32.20) was observed in T7 treatment (vermicompost + cocopeat:vermiculite:perlite (4:2:1)) with followed by T8 treatment i.e., (vermicompost + cocopeat:vermiculite:perlite (5:2:1)) and lowest number of flower (20.00) were found in T1 treatment (FYM + cocopeat:vermiculite: perlite (2:1:1)). Combined application of VC, FYM and cocopeat was indicated as an agreeable combination in this study for optimal Kinnow plant growth and yield under rooftop growing conditions.
