Abstract

Citrus fruits are one of the economic products with a large cultivation area in Iran.
Citrus cultivation areas of Iran are in two northern and southern regions with highly different climates and pests.
The southern region is a tropical area with low annual rainfall and high temperature in the coastal belt of Persian Gulf and Oman Sea.
During spring and late summer seasons of 2022 and 2023, a survey was conducted on citrus orchards of southern Iran, puparia and adults of an aleurodid were found on citrus trees showing yellowing, curling, and glossy leaves in Kerman province of Iran.
The collected insects were identified as blackfly, Aleurolobus marlatti (Quaintance) (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae), using morphological characteristics.
Our observation indicates that acid lime, sweet orange, citron, sour orange and grapefruit are the preference hosts for A. marlatii in Iran.
Among these, acid lime was the most infested host with an average of 117 puparia on a leaf.
This is the first report of A. marlatti in the south of Iran, and the first report of it as a pest on citrus trees in the country.
This pest could be a serious threat to Iranian citriculture.
