Abstract
Corky root (Brown root rot) was detected for the first time in Portugal during 1984, on the tomato cultivar Carmelo in greenhouses.
The symptoms of the disease and morphological features of the pathogen (Pyrenochaeta lycopersici Schneider and Gerlach) are described.
The pathogenicity of all isolates were proved.
Some control measures are suggested.
