ROOTING PEACH BY MALLET CUTTINGS

Mallet cuttings of peach cv. "Redhaven", consisting of a 2.5 cm segment of stem with a leaf and an axillary bud, were rooted under intermittent mist during the summer.
Four propagation dates from July, 21st to September 1st, three IBA concentrations (0, 2500, 5000 ppm) and a wounding practice against a non-wounded control, were arranged in a factorial design.

The best rooting (88%) was achieved with cuttings collected on August 5th, wounded and treated with IBA at 2500 ppm.
Before this date the maximum rooting percentage was 42%, while after this date no more than 17% rooting was obtained.
The wound improved the rooting percentage of up to 42% (from 46% to 88%) in the best conditions.
No difference was found between the two concentrations of IBA in non-wounded cuttings, while in the wounded ones the lower level of auxin showed the best results.
Roots were already visible after 4 weeks.
