Abstract
All peach, Prunus persica L. Batsch, genotypes evaluated were susceptible to the peach canker pathogens, Leucostoma cincta (Pers.: Fr.) Hohn. and L. persoonii (Nits.) Hohn., but variations in susceptibility were described.
The relative quantity of suberin in wounded tissues correlated with cultivar field rankings and provided data for assessing resistance at the infection court.
V68101, identified as the most resistant genotype, has been used extensively in the breeding program.
Initial efforts to derive somaclonal variants from calli derived from immature embryos provided shoot cultures from 5 of 7 cultivars tested.
