Abstract
Peach root development was measured over a four year period using a minirhizotron technique in two soil management study areas.
Root counts were determined 0.5 and 1.0 m from the tree to a 0.9 m depth beginning the year of planting.
In the second growing season, numbers of young white roots were greater in June and July in all soil management systems.
The soil management system had no effect on root numbers.
During the third and fourth growing seasons, flushes of white root growth were evident only following bloom and leaf fall.
Few white roots were seen during the summer after the second growing season.
Root dynamics in both soil management study areas responded similarly.
