Abstract
Fruit strength was evaluated in red raspberry by shipment, mechanical simulation of shipment, fruit compression measurement and puncture of drupelet epidermis.
Differences among varieties were observed in all tests.
Transportation simulation resulted in the same type of damage as observed after actual shipment.
Compression of fruit did not predict results from actual shipping tests.
Puncture testing of drupelets may be a promising new approach to predicting fruit strength.
