Abstract
The US Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, National Clonal Germplasm Repository (NCGR) at Corvallis, Oregon, preserves the genetic resource collections of Rubus and Ribes for the National Plant Germplasm System.
Since 1988, 13 USDA sponsored plant exploration trips have obtained new Rubus and Ribes species for the Corvallis Repository.
With additional donations from collaborators, the NCGR has obtained Rubus species from more than 50 countries throughout the world.
Ribes has been collected from more than 25 countries.
Domestic expeditions for both genera have collected in Alaska, Hawaii, and across the continental United States.
The NCGR Rubus collection includes more than 140 species and subspecific taxa with 343 named cultivars and selections; the Ribes collection has more than 60 taxa with 302 named cultivars and selections.
Species material is preserved as seed with some clonal plant representatives.
Rubus genotypes are maintained in primary collections as pathogen-negative clones in screenhouses or field plants.
Back-up plants are stored in vitro or cryogenically.
Passport and descriptive evaluation information, including voucher images, is publicly accessible on the Repository homepage on the worldwide web.
Seeds or clones can be requested from the Repository Curator.
