CONTROL OF AIR BORNE DISEASE IN STRAWBERRIES WITH NATURAL AND SYNTHETIC ELICITORS

Abstract
The aim of this joint project was to test different natural and synthetic elicitors in the field and in glasshouse against powdery mildew (Sphaerotheca aphanis (Wallr.) U. Braun) and grey mould (Botrytis cinerea Pers.:Fr.), two very important fungal diseases on strawberries occurring in Europe.
In general, some of the elicitors tested significantly reduced the development of powdery mildew on leaves compared to the control treatment.
However, these products were mostly out-performed by standard fungicides.
The most interesting elicitors to control powdery mildew on strawberries were Bion (synthetic elicitor of Syngenta, a.i.
Acibenzolar-S-methyl) and Milsana (natural elicitor of Schaette, a.i. extract of Reynoutria sachalinensis). Furthermore, Milsana seems to control grey mould as well.
Milsana gave significantly better results than the control treatment and reduced grey mould as well as the standard fungicide applications.
