DIFFERENTIATION OF FLOWERS IN SOME SOUR CHERRY VARIETIES IN THE SKOPJE REGION

Four sour cherry varieties, ‘Oblacinska’, ‘Sumadinka’, ‘Haiman’s’ and ‘Kelleris 14’, were studied to determine the influence of temperature, rainfall, flowering time and fruit ripening time on the beginning, duration and dynamics of floral differentiation.
The study began at the end of June and continued through October or November, depending on the year.
Floral differentiation began when average daily temperatures were 23.9°C to 26.3°C in the year preceding actual flowering.
The beginning of differentiation depended on the time of flowering but not on the time of fruit ripening.
The most intensive dynamics were found in ‘Kelleris 14’. Differentiation of sepals and carpel initials were influenced by drought conditions. ‘Sumadinka’ and ‘Kelleris 14’ were sensitive to drought conditions, while ‘Oblacinska’ was more resistant to drought.
Petal and stamen initials differentiate at almost the same time.
