VARIATION IN FRUIT WEIGHT PERFORMANCE OF ORIENTAL PERSIMMON GROWN AT AKITSU, JAPAN, AND NAJU, KOREA

Abstract
We analyzed the influences of climate and site conditions at two sites in Japan and Korea on the fruit weights of persimmon cultivars.
Thirteen astringent cultivars of Korean origin were each grown at the Grape and Persimmon Research Station, Akitsu, Japan, and the Pear Experiment Station, Naju, Korea, and their fruit weights at fruit maturity were evaluated.
Log-transformed data were analyzed by two-way ANOVA (location × cultivar). Highly significant effects were detected for cultivar, but the variance component associated with location was estimated as zero.
The coefficient of correlation between the two locations was 0.87. There was therefore no location effect and no, or only a small, genotype × location interaction between Akitsu and Naju.
Large numbers of domestic persimmon cultivars are conserved at the two institutes.
The effects of location can be neglected in the direct comparison of fruit weight performance data between each institute.
