Abstract
The coding sequence of 123 selected proteins in Easter lily (Lilium longiflorum Thunb.) were analyzed using Codon W and CUSP programs.
The frequency of codon usage that encoded amino acids was calculated and compared with dicotyledons and monocotyledons plants including soybean (Glycine max), cotton (Gossypium hirsutum), rice (Oryza sativa), wheat (Triticum aestivum). The results indicated that 1) the third position of codons in L. longiflorum was rich in G or C; 2) the content of G + C was equal to the A + U, it tends to use the codons ending with G or C; 3) six codons are determined as the optimal codons of L. longiflorum: CAU, CGU, ACC, GCC, GAG, GGC, which showed some difference from other monocots; 4) the codon usage frequency was obviously different from the dicotyledons such as soybean and cotton, but had a consistency in codon preference with the monocotyledons such as rice and wheat.
We should apply these findings for L. longiflorum gene-transformation and selections of the high-efficient expression system.
