Abstract
In the United States of America, new plant cultivars that have shown improvements over the older traditional cultivars have quickly been accepted and grown by the nursery industry.
Effective marketing has increased consumer awareness and demand for these new plant cultivars.
This trend has prompted an increase in searching for and/or developing new and improved plants.
Plant breeding for more disease resistance, more tolerance to environmental stresses and increased blooming have become important goals in developing new and improved plant cultivars.
