Abstract
The differences in phenology, morphology, and ornamental values of Terminalia bellirica (Gaertn.) Roxb. provenances from Sri Lanka and China were investigated in this study.
Although both provenances share a large variation in fruit shape and size between the individuals, some other important distinguishing biological traits are easily seen between provenances.
However, the similarity analysis of ITS sequences showed an extremely high similarity (BP=100) between two provenances.
Chinese provenance is proposed as an ecological variety of T. bellirica, namely, Terminalia bellirica var. bannaensis D.K. Tian. T. bellirica from Sri Lanka, India and other Asian countries has higher ornamental values than that from China due to its attractive color of young leaves in early summer.
