Fruit quality parameters of five primocane raspberry cultivars in Kosovo

This field experiment was designed to assess the quality of raspberry fruits through some parameters in five different primocane cultivars: ‘Polka’, ‘Delniwa’, ‘Mapema’, ‘Himbo Top’, and ‘Sugana’. The experiment was conducted during 2019 using a nested experimental design on a raspberry orchard of 3 ha, in the second year of production.
Quality parameters investigated in Prishtina region (Kosovo) were average weight of fruits, diameter of fruit, length of fruit, no. of drupelets and brix.
The survey was carried out in four repetitions, where the results were statistically processed by ANOVA test.
The experimental included for each cultivar 20 canes, and for each cultivar 200 fruits.
Based on two–way analysis of variance, we found significant changes in all fruit quality parameters.
The results showed that, the larger diameter of fruit, was reached on average on ‘Delniwa’ cultivar (24.79 mm), while ‘Mapema’ cultivar showed the highest values of the length (29.84 mm) whereas, the highest average weight of fruits performed ‘Mapema’ cultivar (6.10 g), the highest values of the sugar content of the fruit showed ‘Delniwa’ cultivar (12.6%), finally the highest values of number of drupelets were found on ‘Mapema’ cultivar (130). In Kosovo in recent years the areas with raspberries have increased.
Kosovo has a favorable climate for the cultivation of raspberry fruits, also the cultivars included in the research have shown satisfactory results.
