Abstract
The objective of this work was to enable the production of three European pear cultivars with the combination of rootstocks of the genus Pyrus under subtropical climate conditions in southern Brazil.
The experiment was implemented in 2017, in a commercial orchard in the city of São Joaquim, SC. European cultivars ‘Rocha’, ‘Carmen’ and ‘Santa Maria’ were grafted on rootstocks CAV3 (Pyrus communis), OH×F87 and OH×F69 (Old Home and Farmingdale). Different developments were observed among the evaluated combinations, where the rootstock OH×F87 has a larger trunk diameter for all evaluated cultivars, but plant height and productivity are similar to OH×F69. The rootstock CAV3 reduced the height of the plants by 24% and the diameter by 46%, with the best productivity result for the ‘Santa Maria’ cultivar with larger fruits, but with a 50% reduction in relation to the others.
The cultivar of the genus Pyrus with the best results in the cultivars was OH×F69, with better efficiency ‘Carmen’ does not have a good adaptation to subtropical climate conditions, with lower productivity, flowering return and productive efficiency, despite having similar vigor to the other cultivars.
The ‘Santa Maria’ cultivar is the most productive of those evaluated in all rootstocks, being the most adapted to subtropical climate conditions.
The rootstock, productivity and lower vigor than OH×F87. CAV3 rootstock can be used at higher densities.
