Abstract
As epidermal appendages on rose stems, prickles play a crucial role in plant defense and adaptive evolution, yet their presence also limits the economic value of roses.
Intensive studies on the morphogenesis and molecular regulatory mechanisms of rose prickles will provide an important theoretical foundation for molecular design breeding and genetic improvement of roses.
In recent years, significant progress has been made in understanding the initiation and morphogenesis of rose prickles.
However, studies on their molecular regulatory mechanisms remain in the preliminary exploration stage.
This article systematically reviews the latest research advances in the morphological characteristics and related molecular regulation of rose prickle development and further outlines key future research directions in this field.
