INFLUENCE OF VA MYCORRHIZA AND PHOSPHORUS ON THE MINERAL NUTRITION AND GROWTH OF MALUS HUPEHENSIS

Abstract
The mineral nutrition and growth of apple (Malus hupehensis) seedlings grown in pots and inoculated by VA mycorrhizal fungi (Glomus versifome and Glomus macrocarpum) were studied.
Plant seedlings were grown in sterilized and unsterilized soil with or without P added.
VA mycorrhiza increased P, Zn, Cu, Ca and Mn concentration in the root, P and Zn in the top and the growth (e.g. plant height, leaf area and dry weight, etc.) of the plant grown in sterilized soil without P added.
It stimulated the uptake of Cu and Zn, but reduced P, Mn, B and Fe concentration in the plant grown in sterilized soil with P added.
VA mycorrhizal inoculation in unsterilized soil didn’t influence most of the minerals concentration and plant growth except increasing Zn concentration in the top.
P fertilization significantly increased P and Mn concentration and growth of nonmycorrhizal plant (NMP). It reduced Cu concentration and caused P-Cu interactions of the plant which was not inoculated by VA mycorrhizal fungus.
P concentration in mycorrhizal plant (MP) was increased by P fertilization, but Zn in the root of MP grown in sterilized soil was reduced and P-Zn interaction was caused by P added.
P fertilization didn’t influence the growth of MP.
