Abstract
The correlation observed between nitrogen content in the leaves and the quantity of fruit crop was positive both in the year when leaf analysis was performed and in the next year.
The optimal nitrogen concentration in the leaves was within the range of 2.5 to 3.2 % N. A positive correlation was observed likewise between phosphorus and potassium content in the leaves ensuring maximal yields appears to be about 2.6 to 3.0 % K20. There was a negative correlation between the ratio N/K and yield.
With the increase of the ratio N/K above 2.0 the yield in the following year decreased considerably.
Maximal yields were produced in case the ratio N/K during the previous year was 1.2 to 1.6. Fruit-bearing plum trees, whose uptake is calculated on the basis of wood pruned, autumn leaves fallen and yield size, show an annual uptake per hectare of a total of 30.14 to 39.66 kg nitrogen, 4.33 to 6.53 kg phosphorus and 24.18 to 38.04 kg potassium.
When determining the fertilizer needs of plum trees it is necessary to combine the use of the leaf analysis data with those of the biological uptake of nutrient elements, taking into consideration a number of other factors such as soil characteristic, tree condition, yield and others.
