THE INFLUENCE OF ROOTSTOCK AND CULTIVAR ON THE LEAF CONTENT OF NUTRIENT ELEMENTS GROWTH AND YIELD OF THREE SOUR CHERRY CULTIVARS

Abstract
Three sour cherry cultivars: North Star, Kelleris 16 and English Morelio budded on Prunus mahaleb and Prunus avium rootstocks as well as own-rooted trees were used as a material in the experiment conducted in the years 1984–1988. The obtained results showed that the leaf content of nitrogen /N/, phosphorus /P/, potassium /K/ and calcium /Ca/ depended upon both cultivar and rootstock.
The magnesium /Mg/ content was in the most cases depended upon rootstock.
Thus, it is concluded that sour cherry trees budded on Prunus mahaleb rootstocks should be recommended for soil which does not have a satisfactory level of Mg for sour cherry orchards.
Moreover, it is suggested that level of Mg described in the Polish standards for bearing sour cherry trees is too high.
Thus, it may be lowered down to 0.2–0.3% of leaf dry matter and still be considered as optimal.
