Abstract
Four year old ‘Gola’ pear trees received three foliar spray applications of 250 ppm a.i. each of Promalin and PP333 and 1000 ppm each of Alar and CCC at petal fall (PF) followed by two and four weeks after PF and soil applied PP333 at 2 g a.i./tree in late fall stage by trunk soil line pour (TSLP) method in 1988. In the year of treatment the terminal growth was reduced by soil and spray applied PP333, Alar and CCC in that order and suppressed by Promalin.
Promalin increased number of side shoots (shoots>5 cm) thereby increasing the canopy spread.
PP333 treatments increased number of spurs (shoots<5 cm). In the following year the tree height was greatly reduced by PP333 and Promalin treatments.
The side shoot growth was minimum in PP333 treatments, whereas in Promalin this was lower than control but higher than other treatments.
PP333 treatments increased leaf P, Ca and Mg and decreased K with significant increase in number of flowers and fruits.
Promalin increased leaf N and Ca, decreased K with considerable increase in number of flowers and fruits.
Alar and CCC though decreased some growth characters but failed to increase the number of fruits.
