Abstract
The behavior of pollen tube growth has confirmed the cross-incompatibility of the almond (Prunus amygdalus Batsch) cultivars ‘Ferragnès’ and ‘Ferralise’, thus suggesting that their different behavior in the transmission of self-compatibility to their offspring from ‘Tuono’ must be attributed to other genetic factors than the S alleles of pollen incompatibility.
Results also confirmed the good pollen tube growth of self-pollinated ‘Tuono’ and that pollen tube growth depends more on the pistils where the pollen grows than on pollen itself.
