Producers face difficult times and it is necessary for them to know how avoid expenses.
In this paper the cost of production for Spanish almonds is analyzed.
Four different types of farms are differentiated trying to take into consideration dry and irrigated land, as well as, organic farms.
Special emphasis is given to evaluate the impact of labour (as the most important cost factor) and the EC subsidies.
A comparison is provided between costs in Spain and California (USA) for almonds cultivated on irrigated land.
Finally, the future cost evolution is predicted for the main elements defining variable costs.
