Abstract
Fruits of apple cvs Cox’s Orange Pippin, Rode Boskoop and Jonagold pollinated by pollen of cvs Discovery, Delcorf, Cox’s Orange Pippin and Elstar showed only slight differences in characteristics.
For Cox’s Orange Pippin a higher percentage of fruit set occurred when more good seeds per fruit were present.
This was not observed for Rode Boskoop and Jonagold.
No significant relationship was found between number of good seeds per fruit and firmness, fruit weight and calcium content.
Delcorf as pollinizer for Cox’s Orange Pippin and Jonagold tended to give a lower fruit set than when Elstar, Cox’s Orange Pippin or Discovery acted as pollinizer.
This was probably caused by reduced viability of the Delcorf pollen in this experiment.
No significant effects of pollinizer on fruit firmness, fruit weight, soluble solids, acids and calcium content were found.
