Abstract
Flowering dates of 1 plum, 1 sour cherry, 2 sweet cherries, 2 pears, and 11 apple cultivars have been recorded over a ten year period (1985–94). The difference in begin of flowering between the earliest year (1990, 2 April) and the latest year (1987, 7 May) exceeded one month.
The length of the flowering period of apples varied from 16 days in 1992 to 37 days in 1991. Flowering overlap of apple cultivars was expressed as differences in date of full bloom.

It is concluded that sufficient overlap between early and late flowering cultivars, and between mid-season and late flowering cultivars does not occur every year.
