EFFECTS OF GRASS CLIPPING WASTES ON THE DEVELOPMENT, YIELD, AND QUALITY OF STRAWBERRY

The objective of this work is to determine the effects of grass clipping wastes (GCW) on the development, yield, and quality of strawberries growing in pots during 1993–94 and 1994–95 growing seasons at the Department of Horticulture.

After studying the results from the first year the second year trials were organised again and grass + sand and soil mixture ratios were arranged as 1:4, 1:6 and 1:8. FYM: sand and soil mixture ratios of 1:2 and 1:4 were used as control.
During the growing season, the percentage of living plants, their vegetative development, chlorosis, monthly yield, yield per plant, and fruit quality (TSS, average fruit weights) were investigated.
The best yield per plant was obtained from a 1:4 ratio of grass and soil plus sand mixture.
