EFFECT OF CO₂ ENRICHMENT ON GREENHOUSE GROWN STRAWBERRY

‘Elsanta’ strawberry plants were grown in greenhouses at different CO₂ concentrations.
In the first trial yields were improved by 1.0% and 6.4% respectively by increasing the CO₂ concentration from 350 ppm to 600 ppm and 900 ppm.
In the second trial yields were increased by respectively 2.5% and 8.7% at elevated levels of 400 and 600 ppm compared to ambient atmospheric CO₂ concentrations of 250–350 ppm.
In the third trial yields were increased by respectively 15%, 20% and 31% at elevated levels of 400 ppm, 600 ppm and 900 ppm.
In all three trials CO₂ enrichment stimulated leaf development, improved fruit weight and fruit quality.
