Abstract
We have studied – under the leadership of Dr.K.Csatári-Szüts – in a complete experiment, among other things, the accumulated heat unit sums (a.h.u.s.) of 14 pea cultivars and the possibilities of periodical sowing.

The earliest cultivar needed 642, the latest 914 average heat units to reach optimal tenderness.
Evaluating our results, we ascertained that it is more exact to characterize the cultivars’ breeding season by heat unit sums.

Our statement seems to be affirmed by the fact that the yearly fluctuations of the a.h.u.s. are 67.0–163.0°C, whereas the deviation among breeding seasons, determined in days, might be as much as 23–29 days.

In the experiment of periodical sowing we found that past the optimal sowing date 2 or 3 sowings are economical.
It is not advisable to sow late varieties periodically.
