Abstract
In order to establish the relation of yield and quality in ripening process of processing peas, and the factors affecting this relation, a 3-year experiment on 5 cultivars sown at 2 sowing dates was made.
The yield and quality of grain were observed in 5 harvest periods, through 8–9 days.

The relationship of ripening intensity and temperature conditions was found, and is apparent from the significant positive correlation (r-0.572) between the daily increase of tenderometric values and the daily sum of heat units.
The rainfall quantity did not affect greatly the intensity of ripening.

Within the acceptable quality limits for pea grain a strong positive correlation between the yield and tenderometric values (r-0.707) was found.

The yield of about 60% was achieved by the quality "extra" and of 80% by "standard" quality when taking as 100% the limit value of the acceptable quality.
With the over ripe grain the yield did not increase any longer.

On the basis of the parameters obtained, it is in the area of North West Croatia possible to work out the system for payment of raw material of peas according to quality, whereby the established variability is to be considered.
