Abstract
The paper discusses the approach used in Guernsey to reduce labour costs by tackling the basic crop pattern and organisation of the glass house holding.
It indicates the value of specialisation and the cost reductions achieved through using seasonal labour.
The planning is backed up by a simplified approach to work measurement.
The standard work values are based on either time study or predetermined motion time standards and are built up both from basic work elements and by using regression techniques.
