Abstract
Peanut cells grown in suspension are achlorophyllous while the calli from which they were derived are green.
Cells habituated in a medium containing sucrose could not be induced to revert to chlorophyll synthesis.
Treatments to induce chlorophyll synthesis were: culture in glucose, and/or in presence of alphaalpha dipyridyl, or in darkness.
A loss of chloroplast ribosomes was observed in the cells.
