Abstract
The growth of Echinacea angustifolia DC. in vitro using adult tissues was studied.
Shoots were regenerated from flower stalk sections of adult plants growing in the field.
The rooting phase was established from shoots placed into cellulose plugs soaked with LS/2 medium containing 1 mg L-1 indole-3-butiric acid without sucrose.
This system was provided with forced ventilation by bubbling air through the liquid medium.
Different air flow rates affected the air exchanges from the vessels and increased the culture photosynthetic rates.
Sixty five percent of plantlets rooted in autotrophic growth.
This protocol could be used as an alternative to seed propagation and allows propagation of in vitro E. angustifolia clones that can be acclimatize and provides a consistent biomass for medicinal purposes.
