DEVELOPMENT OF A MICROPROPAGATION PROTOCOL FOR THE ROMANIAN QUINCE (CYDONIA OBLONGA) CULTIVAR ‘AURII’ AND ROOTSTOCKS ‘BN70’ AND ‘A TYPE’

Abstract
The current production of quince tree (Cydonia oblonga) for establishing new orchards did not satisfy the requests of fruit growers in the last years.
The present paper intends to establish the technology for in vitro propagation of ‘BN 70’ and ‘A Type’ quince rootstocks and of ‘Aurii’ quince cultivar.
The effect of culture media and time for collecting explants on the establishment of plant material in vitro were tested.
Worst results during the multiplication step were obtained with WPM but the rest of the media produced very good multiplication rates, although plants showed hyperhydratation symptoms in Lepoivre media.
Successful rooting was obtained on half strength MS with Lee-Fossard vitamins IBA – 1 mg/L, GA3 – 0,1 mg/L, NaFeEDTA – 3,2 mg/L, sucrose – 20 g/L, with 8 days dark and photoperiod of 14 or 16 hours.
